Image Copyright – In Detail
Webpage images
Most of the images on this website begin as real photographs and are then converted into the poster style you see. The majority of these original photographs are sourced from Unsplash, and copyright in those images belongs to the original creators (licensed for free use under Unsplash terms).
Event and Post images
Event and post images are usually sourced from Unsplash (and then converted) or taken by members of the Village Hope team. Where images are obtained from elsewhere, we will reference the source either on this page or alongside the relevant post.
In all cases, copyright in the original images remains with the creator, and we respect those rights.
The use of AI
To create the poster style (inspired by the original LNER/GWR railway posters), we use AI tools to convert images. Occasionally, AI is also used to:
- Create a derivative image inspired by an existing source, or
- Generate an entirely new image from a written prompt (where no suitable photograph can be sourced).
Under UK copyright law (Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, s.9(3)), computer-generated works are protected for 50 years from creation. The “author” is deemed to be the person who undertakes the arrangements necessary for creation—in this case, Village Hope.
Where an image combines AI output with human creative input (such as curation, editing, or compositing), copyright in those creative elements belongs to Village Hope.
International Visitors
This policy is based on UK copyright law. Other countries may apply different rules, particularly around AI-generated or derivative works. If you are visiting this site from outside the UK, please be aware that copyright laws in your jurisdiction may differ.
